Objectives of course

To train the student to assist the cardiologist in invasive or non-invasive cardiac laboratory, in performing routine cardiac investigations and interventional procedures.

Scope: After successful completion of the course, the person can be allowed to perform non-invasive procedures like echocardiography, treadmill and Holter testing under supervision of cardiologist and assist the cardiologist in cardiac catheterization laboratory. Students will get familiar with various complex procedures such as performing stent implants, setting up cardiac pacemakers and defibrillators in the treatment of heart diseases

Course outline

It is a four year professional Degree course comprising of five basic science subjects in the first year, four subjects in the second year and three subjects in the third year. There will be three internal examinations conducted by the college and one public examination at the end of each academic year. This graduate program consists of three years of clinical faculty supervised theoretic learning and practical hands-on training. This enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills and concepts.  At the end of third year the candidates will have to pass the Kerala University of Health Sciences final year (Third year) examination, before starting compulsory internship of one year.  Upon completion of the three-year course and one year internship the candidate become eligible for the bachelor degree and will evolve into a full trained, qualified cardiovascular technologist capable of working independently.
