Academics
About Department
The Department of Anaesthesia Technology at MIMS
College of Allied Health Sciences, affiliated with the Kerala University
of Health Sciences (KUHS), is committed to excellence in education,
clinical training, and patient safety in the field of anaesthesia and
perioperative care. The department prepares highly competent Anaesthesia
Technologists through an outcome-based curriculum that combines strong academic
foundations with extensive hands-on clinical experience in modern operation
theatres, intensive care units, emergency departments, and other critical care
settings.
The Bachelor of Science in
Anaesthesia Technology is a four-year professional degree programme,
comprising three years of academic and clinical training followed by a
one-year compulsory rotational internship. The curriculum equips students
with the knowledge and practical skills required to assist anaesthesiologists
in perioperative care, critical care, trauma management, emergency services,
and advanced life support while developing expertise in anaesthesia equipment,
patient monitoring, airway management, and infection control.
Under the guidance of experienced
anaesthesiologists, intensivists, and clinical faculty, students receive
structured training across a wide range of surgical specialties and critical
care environments, enabling them to develop professional competence, clinical
judgment, and technical proficiency.
VISION
To be recognized as a centre of excellence in Anaesthesia
Technology education, clinical training, research, and professional
development, nurturing highly skilled, ethical, compassionate, and
technologically competent Anaesthesia Technologists. The department envisions
preparing graduates who uphold the highest standards of patient safety and
quality care, embrace emerging technologies, practise evidence-based
healthcare, and contribute effectively to perioperative, critical care,
emergency, and multidisciplinary healthcare services.
MISSION
1. To
provide quality education and comprehensive training in Anaesthesia Technology.

theoretical, practical, and clinical knowledge.
3. To
provide hands-on clinical training in operation theatres, critical care units,
casualty, and other relevant clinical areas.
4. To train
students in the preparation and maintenance of the operation theatre and
anaesthesia workstation for safe conduct of anaesthesia.
5. To
develop proficiency in handling anaesthesia equipment, airway devices,
monitoring systems, anaesthesia drugs, and emergency equipment.
6. To
promote patient safety, professional ethics, infection prevention, and
compassionate patient care.
7. To
develop skills in perioperative monitoring, patient preparation, anaesthesia
assistance, recovery room care, and critical care support.
8. To train
students in Basic Life Support (BLS), resuscitation, emergency management, and
assistance in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
9. To
encourage evidence-based practice, critical thinking, clinical decision-making,
and problem-solving skills.
10. To
promote research, innovation, quality improvement, continuous learning, and
professional development.
11. To
develop competent professionals capable of assisting in general, regional,
paediatric, obstetric, cardiac, neurosurgical, trauma, emergency, and other
specialized anaesthesia services.
12. To
prepare students to provide safe and effective support in non-operating-room
anaesthesia services and critical care settings.
