About Department

The Department of Nuclear Medicine Technology at MIMS College of Allied Health Sciences, affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), is committed to excellence in education, clinical training, and patient-centered care in the field of diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine. The department prepares highly competent Nuclear Medicine Technologists through an outcome-based curriculum that integrates strong scientific knowledge with extensive hands-on clinical training in advanced nuclear medicine imaging and radionuclide therapy services.
The Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Medicine Technology is a four-year professional degree programme comprising three years of academic and clinical education followed by a one-year compulsory rotational internship. The curriculum equips students with the knowledge and practical skills required to assist Nuclear Medicine Physicians in diagnostic imaging, radionuclide therapy, radiopharmaceutical preparation, radiation safety, quality assurance, patient care, and advanced molecular imaging techniques.

Under the guidance of experienced Nuclear Medicine Physicians, Medical Physicists, Radiopharmacists, and clinical faculty, students receive structured training in modern nuclear medicine departments, enabling them to develop professional competence, technical expertise, critical thinking, and ethical clinical practice.

Specialized Clinical Training Includes:

  • Diagnostic Nuclear Medicine Procedures
  • PET-CT and SPECT-CT Imaging
  • Gamma Camera Imaging
  • Radiopharmaceutical Preparation and Quality Control
  • Radionuclide Therapy Procedures
  • Radiation Detection and Measurement
  • Radiation Protection and Safety Practices
  • Dose Calculation and Radiation Dosimetry
  • Patient Preparation and Image Acquisition
  • Quality Assurance of Nuclear Medicine Equipment
  • Infection Prevention and Biomedical Waste Management
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Emergency Patient Care
